The means of expression are visual but the process certainly is. And the experience of reading should be a visual experience as well. I know when I'm reading a very good novel because I can see all the details of the world which is being created ..... And to play a bit of the devil's advoc...Beautiful! And to play a bit of the devil's advocate, I'd venture to suggest that photography is like writing in pictures. While I was moving and remodeling the condo, I was unable to focus on any of my writing projects...but that creative energy was well-channeled into other things.
